This intersection is south of the Wheatland Center school which is towards top left. The care is west bound on Old Geneva road. This home/grounds were affected by the tornado in the early 2000s. Inside the garage area is the physical structure of the Oakdale one room schoolhouse. TYpical of the time, structures were moved and used and acclimated to the building they became part of.
The very old WHeatland Cemetery is in the image at the top, surrounded by a fence, on the hill. As I look at the map to pinpoint the location it is Geneva Road and 368th/Cty O
I grew up in this house. My dad purchased the one room school house when my brother and I were toddlers and over the years added on to accommodate us as we became a family of 9. The school was the bottom level in the center of the house which became our dining room. The front porch of the school had been moved to behind the house and used as our shed. That was destroyed in the tornado. The portion in back where vehicles are is now a grassy hill area with evergreen trees on top. Our family still owns the property.
Did that schoolhouse used to be called "Freiden's" back in the 60's?
wally, that sounds like a church school.. maybe in Wilmot... but for certain there was a FRIEDEN in KENOSHA.. this was a public school
